Seussical Millinery Workshop :: Tutorial
We had a BlAST making hats the other day at School
This is such a fun workshop.
Fleece Fabric makes it so easy. It’s soft and stretchy. It may be cut without finishing.
And is available in a rainbow of colors and fantastic prints.
Here is the tutorial for you.
Cut one piece of fleece approximately 9″x21″ making sure the stretch of the fleece is going in the direction of the longest edge.
This is to make sure the hat will stretch around the head and ensure a great fit.
Fold the two short sides towards the center 1″-2″
Make 5 cuts along the folded edge
From the folded edge cut towards the edge but not all the way to it.
Fold over one of the long edges. This will be the top of the hat.
Cut a series of holes just like you did in step 3.
This time cut 6-8.
Cut a pile of fleece strips. Its good to have the strip be at least 9″ for easy tying.
A variety of lengths and widths is best and highly encouraged for that seussical look.
Fold the two short sides in meeting at the center.
Insert a fleece strip through the holes and tie.
Continue tying until the seam is closed.
Have some extra fun and use two ties in one hole. Or tie two different strips together to make a very long tie.
Be Creative!
To close up the top of the hat, line up the holes and using the fleece strips tie it closed.
Your hat is almost complete.
Have some fun and see what you can add.
Be creative with your ties.
Tie several together
Braid
Cut
I hope you’re inspired to make your own.
I’d love to hear your comments and see what you make.
Please feel free to share this with proper credit please.
Seussical Millinery Workshop
Each year our local primary school celebrates Dr. Seuss’s birthday (March 2 ) The celebration is a few days of great reading and whimsical creating.
Last year I taught my daughters class how to make wild and wacky yet super easy hats.
I am delighted to have been asked back this year.
Here’s a sneak peak
Hope you all do something fun today!
(tutorial coming soon)
